Durlon® RTJ Gaskets

Durlon® RTJ gaskets are a type of gasket that is designed to provide reliable sealing performance in Singapore’s high-pressure and high-temperature environments. These gaskets are precision machined from solid metal. They seal by creating a very high unit load through metal-to-metal line contact with special mating flanges. The metals are typically chosen to ensure the ring gasket is softer than the flange material, preventing damage to the flanges and facilitating the plastic flow of the gasket into the flange faces.

RTJ gaskets are commonly used in the oil and gas industry and other heavy industrial applications. The design of the gasket or cross-section is chosen based on the existing flange configuration and the designed maximum system pressure. Durlon® RTJ gaskets are designed to meet the stringent requirements of high-pressure and high-temperature applications, providing reliable sealing performance in critical applications.

Durlon® RTJ Characteristics

  • All gaskets feature low-stress permanent markings, indicating the style, ring number, material and applicable standards.
  • All gaskets comply with the ASME B16.20 standard and the API spec 6A (where applicable).
  • All materials are fully traceable, with documentation available upon request.
  • Material hardness is professionally controlled, providing a secure seal without damaging flange surfaces.
  • RTJ gaskets can withstand aggressive chemicals and temperatures up to 1,000°C (1,832°F) with properly selected metal.

Ring Type Joint Gaskets - Styles: R, RX, BX

Style R

  • Durlon® Style R ring gaskets are available in oval and octagonal cross-sections.
  • The Style R metal ring gaskets are interchangeable on modern octagonal flat bottom grooved flanges.
  • Manufactured in standard sizes according to ASME B16.20 and API 6A specifications.

Style RX

  • Unique self-sealing action with external bevels of the ring joint gasket making the initial contact, providing a seal against the groove’s outer surfaces. As the internal pressure increases, so does the metal gasket loading stress against the groove, thus improving the gasket’s sealing characteristics.
  • The Style RX gasket’s design features make it resistant to shock load, test pressure shock, and drilling vibration.
  • Style RX ring joints are interchangeable with standard Style R groove designs. Care should be taken when interchanging these styles, as RX gaskets are taller and may add length to the finished assembly.

Style BX

  • Durlon® Style BX metal gaskets have a pitch diameter slightly larger than the groove pitch diameter. This allows for initial contact to be made on the outside of the ring, pre-loading the gasket, which creates a pressure-energised seal.
  • All Durlon® Style BX metal gaskets incorporate a pressure passage to balance trapped pressure in the joint.
  • Style BX ring joint gaskets can only be used with API BX flanges and are not interchangeable with Style RX.
